Campus Corner- A Plattsburgh Staple

If you know me, you know I love little hole-in-the-wall places to eat; the kind that serve high-test coffee, delicious food, and service that treats you like family (yes, with sass!). If you're ever in the North Country and need a good breakfast or lunch fix, look no further than The Campus Corner.

Now, the name may be a bit deceiving- the location isn't exactly near the college, but the kids love it nonetheless. This 1950's style eatery boasts the charm of a day-gone-by era with its long, winding counter (counter eating only), bottomless coffee cup, and good honest breakfast and lunch meals that will cure any morning-after reminisce of a poor decision the night before, or a great place to sit down as a family and eat.

When you walk in you are greeted with a friendly hello, and a welcome. The staff is ready to help you find a seat at the unique counter, and are very COVID minded in their safety and seating. Without even saying a word your coffee is brought to you with your menus and you immediately begin to smell the deliciousness coming from the kitchen (it is a postage stamp dining room- ya get intimate quick with people and the smell of food!).

The menu is full of diner staples from pancakes and waffles, eggs and hash, to sandwiches, burgers and more. Daily specials hang above the diner throwing your tastebuds into a frenzy of indecision until you're time to shine comes with a pleasant "what'll it be" and you stare at your waitress with a deer-in-headlights look. She smiles, and says "I'll give you another minute" and off she goes, coffee pot in hand to warm up another customer's cup.

You finally settle on your meal of choice and within minutes your warm plate arrives and you can't wait to dig in. You look around at the smiling faces that are with you, many of which are diner regulars- swapping stories, tall tales, and giving you the business as if you've known each other for years. You slowly savor the flavors of honest cooking and you wonder "should I have had the (insert the other options you thought of having as well). It's no matter, you keep eating as if it'll be your last meal because it tastes so good. You feel at home here, and then you realize- you've eating the whole thing.

Your waitress comes to you and removes your plate and asks if you'd like more. You think about it- the food is cheap and your waistline can suffer another pancake, but you warmly decline and make room for the next group of hungry college kids that came through the door- making their memories at their local diner. You think back to your days of college and the place you went with your friends and you smile once more.

The bill comes and you can either pay by cash or check (no cards accepted, but there is an ATM in the corner). Make sure you tip well- these ladies work hard and deserve to be compensated well for their warm smiles, welcoming feeling, and damn good cooking.

I cannot recommend this place enough- go there and you'll see!
